Getting comfortable with 28" pitch

16 April 2019 By Seth Miller 1 Comment

Seated in the Mirus Kestrel mock-up at AIX19 and my knees had plenty of room, even at 28

Is there such a thing as a comfortable airline seat pitched at 28 inches? Scant few passengers would answer that question in the affirmative, but seating manufacturers are getting creative in their efforts to make it at least not miserable.

Can $75 million in loans and direct investment save WOW Air? That’s the amount Indigo Partners appears set to invest, with a lot of strings attached. Interim cuts might keep the carrier alive while it waits to learn of its future.

WOW loses Icelandair as suitor and savior, future uncertain

Thus begins the death spiral of WOW Air.

Icelandair will no longer purchase its struggling neighbor after indicating it “unlikely that all of the conditions in the share purchase agreement would be fulfilled by the shareholders’ meeting on November 30th.” With WOW unable to sort out the conversion of its recently issued bonds and warrants into a form that Icelandair can purchase (for pennies on the dollar) the deal is off. This leaves very little chance of a positive outcome for WOW Air.

Say hello to FlyArystan, the world’s newest low cost carrier. The airline officially came into existence today, with parent company Air Astana announcing its formation and plans. Sun Country’s pivot to a ULCC continues unabated. More than a year after the carrier announced plans for a new approach to the market the changes continue. Up next: further cabin reconfiguration and a revamp of the loyalty and co-brand credit card strategy that seem unlikely to make many customers happy.

Primera halts operations effective immediately

1 October 2018 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

Primera Air’s Transatlantic LCC efforts sank the company. Small but stable in delivering European charter services, the carrier sought something more. It wanted the grandeur of being a transatlantic operator. Instead it is closing up shop tonight.

Emirates Skywards swallows flyDubai OPEN

1 July 2018 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

The long slog to full integration of Emirates and flyDubai continues apace. This week’s announcement brings the loyalty programs of the two carriers together. And the move looks an awful lot like a shotgun wedding, with minimal regard for the flyDubai OPEN members’ history with that program.

This story is about: elite status, Emirates, flydubai, frequent flier, frequent flyer, LCC, LCCs, loyalty, points Filed Under: Loyalty
