ThinKom's ThinAir family now has a new kid brother. The company formally launched the ThinAir Ka1717 offering this week, offering a smaller, lighter solution targeting the regional jet market.

No one is willing to spill the beans completely, but it appears ThinKom has secured an airline launch customer for its Ka1717 regional jet inflight internet solution.

This story is about: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Bill Milroy, Delta Air Lines, Hughes, IFC, IFEC, in-flight connectivity, in-flight internet, in-flight wifi, inflight connectivity, Inmarsat Global, Jupiter, Ka1717, regional jet, SES-17, STC, STCs, Supplemental Type Certificate, Thales, ThinAir, ThinKom, United Airlines, ViaSat, ViaSat-3 Filed Under: IFEC, PremCat

The business side of Orbit's 12

As multiple vendors vie for a slice of the regional jet connectivity refresh in the North America Orbit Communication Systems is taking an arguably more well-rounded approach. The company is now pitching its AirTRx family of parabolic antennae as “the ultimate solution for regional jets, where space is limited.”

This story is about: Alaska Airlines, Ball Aerospace, Bombardier, CRJ, electronically steered antenna, Embraer, ESA, IFC, IFEC, in flight, in-flight connectivity, in-flight internet, in-flight wifi, inflight connectivity, inflight wifi, Intelsat, JSX, Ka1717, Lior Rudminsky, Orbit Communication Systems, regional jet, Satellite, SatShow2023, SpaceX, Starlink, Stellar Blu, ThinKom Filed Under: IFEC

Viasat confirms Delta fleet growth

14 March 2023 By Seth Miller Leave a Comment

More Delta planes are now confirmed to be receiving the Viasat inflight Wi-Fi hardware over the next 20ish months.

Viasat will install its inflight internet solution across more than 1,000 planes for Delta Air Lines as part of an updated agreement between the two companies. The deal includes all active aircraft in its Airbus A330, Airbus A350, and Boeing 767 fleets.

This story is about: Ball Aerospace, Delta Air Lines, electronically steered antenna, electronically steered phased array, ESA, in flight, in-flight connectivity, in-flight internet, in-flight wifi, inflight connectivity, inflight wifi, Intelsat, Ka, Ka-band, Ka1717, Ku-band, OneWeb, PaxEx, phased array, regional jet, Satellite, Stellar Blu, ThinKom, ViaSat, ViaSat-3 Filed Under: IFEC, PremCat

Regional jets, for the most part, do not offer satellite-based internet services on board. The hardware is typically considered too large for the fuselage, and too heavy for the smaller planes. But it is not impossible. And another carrier now seems to be trying it out.

This story is about: 2Ku, antenna, E190, electronically steered antenna, electronically steered phased array, Embraer, ESA, IFEC, in flight, in-flight connectivity, in-flight internet, in-flight wifi, inflight connectivity, inflight wifi, Intelsat, JAL, Japan Airlines, JetBlue, Ka1717, Ku3030, OneWeb, regional jet, Stellar Blu, ThinAir, ThinKom, ViaSat Filed Under: IFEC, PremCat
